The phone rings and everyone catches their breath for a slight second

We keep waiting and waiting and waiting for THE phone call. The phone call that will send us flying across the room, that will send me flying to the computer, the call that will send Mom to the telephone, the call that will send Dad home for the rest of the day, the phone call that will keep all of us awake for the next however many months.
